Runners Need

Our challenge

Established in 1982, Runners Need has four shops in London selling shoes, clothes, books and everything else a running enthusiast might need.

By 1999, the retailer had already expanded its service to the Web, using an off-the-shelf e-commerce solution. But, as the sporting goods market became increasingly competitive, Runners Need acknowledged that its website could be used more effectively to reach existing and new customers. It turned to Simplicity.

What we did

Our main objectives were to improve the Runners Need online store and to make the site more dynamic by streamlining the way content is updated. We:

  • Designed the look-and-feel of the website to reflect the Runners Need ethos and appeal to runners of all levels
  • Created a robust online store with integrated search and payment facilities
  • Tailored a content management system for use by selected Runners Need employees

The results

Runners Need now has a more dynamic online offering to complement its high street stores and attract new customers. The website has a contemporary design and content is kept up-to-date easily and quickly using our content management system.

Des Austin, the owner of Runners Need, comments:

"Our previous website was very static - we relied on a third party to update the content so things took longer than we wanted. Now, we can use the Simplicity content management system to quickly update news, product details, images and other assets on the site, making it much more attractive to visitors."

Runners Need is very happy with the volume of sales being made through the website and is planning to research the site's impact as a marketing tool for its four retail outlets through in-store questionnaires.
